An electrochemical cell apparatus and method comprising a first electrode and a second electrode wherein the area ratio between them is 10 or higher, for example a metal plate and a metal wire; wherein said first and second electrodes are made from the same material; and wherein the distance between said first electrode and said second electrode is preferably in the range of from about 1 mm to about lµm is provided. Such electrochemical cell can be used to measure crude oil corrosion using an electrochemical impedance method.
