<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scheme preferentially selecting an address of a type having no lifetime set thereto or an address of a type having a lifetime which can be extended, depending on the use of the address to be selected. <P>SOLUTION: A client having a plurality of addresses and communicating with a server by using one address selected from the plurality of addresses, performs the following determination. The use of the address to be selected is determined when selecting the address for use in communication with the server from the addresses (step S404). When the use of the address is determined to be a specific one, control is performed as follows.
