INTERSECTING WAVEGUIDE AND OPTICAL WAVEGUIDE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an intersecting waveguide for suppressing optical loss and cross talk of an optical carrier wave at an intersection part and achieving high-quality optical communication, and to provide an optical waveguide for suppressing the optical loss and achieving the high-quality optical communication. SOLUTION: The intersecting waveguide 10 includes: a first optical waveguide 1 provided with a first core part 141 and a side face clad part 15 covering the first core part 141; and a second optical wave guide 2 provided with a second core part 142 and a side face clad part 15 covering the second core part 142. The first optical waveguide 1 and the second optical waveguide 2 intersect so that each of the core parts 141 and 142 intersects each other. At a place closer to the incident side in the first optical waveguide 1 than the intersection part 143 of the waveguide, the part in the vicinity of the intersecting part of the boundary face of the first core part 141 and the side face clad part 15 and the boundary face of the second core part 142 and the side face clad part 15 has a tapered shape so that the width of the first core part 141 gradually increases in the direction of light propagation in the first optical waveguide 1.
