PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a composition for modulating bone development for treating osteoporosis due to bone loss, imperfect osteogenesis, Paget's disease, metastatic bone tumor, myeloma bone disease, broken-bone fusion, or marble bone disease or osteofibrous dysplasia related to increased bone mass, and to provide a method for identifying a compound. SOLUTION: An antibody, a peptide mimetic, a low-molecular weight compound, CD200 protein and its fragment, soluble CD200, CD200 receptor protein and its fragment are used for stimulating bone development. An antibody fragment, a low-molecular weight compound, a peptide mimetic, peptide, or antisense oligonucleotide to a CD200 receptor are used for inhibiting bone development.
