<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quickly lower the pressure in a fuel rail in the case the pressure is the same as or higher than a relief pressure exceeding the allowable range and to adequately maintain the pressure in the fuel rail while optionally lowering the same. <P>SOLUTION: The fuel supply apparatus 1 comprises a high pressure pump 10 and a fuel rail 20. The high pressure pump 10 comprises a plunger part 40 having a compression chamber 14 and an ejection valve part 60 having an ejection valve. It also comprises return channels 71, 72 for returning the fuel from the downstream side of the ejection valve to the compression chamber 14, and a pressure adjusting part 70 provided in the return channels 71, 72. The pressure adjusting part 70 has a mechanical relief valve and a mechanical constant residual pressure valve. The constant residual pressure valve comprises an orifice having a relatively small channel area on the upstream side so that it is opened ordinarily and it is closed at the constant residual pressure or a pressure lower than that.
