PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a suction head for a preform capable of making the time required for holding the preform and releasing the holding shorter than before, with a relatively simple constitution. SOLUTION: A piston part 22 is vertically movably fitted in a first storage chamber 26a of a suction head 20, and a projection part 23 inserted into the preform 100 is connected, and these piston part 22 and projection part 23 are pressed upward by a coil spring 24. A second pressure reduction chamber 37 smaller in the cross-sectional area than a first pressure reduction chamber 36 is arranged above the first pressure reduction chamber 36 under the piston part 22, and these pressure reduction chambers 36 and 37 are connected to a common suction passage 44 arranged on the axis CL of the suction head 20. When air is sucked from a suction port 20c via the suction passage 44, the piston part 22 and the projection part 23 lower against the coil spring 24 by driving force generated in response to a cross-sectional area difference between the first pressure reduction chamber 36 and the second pressure reduction chamber 37, and a cone part 23c of the projection part 23 projects from an under surface 21a.
