Disclosed is a glycol compound which is useful as a starting material and an intermediate for a synthetic resin, an additive for a synthetic resin, a medicine, a cosmetic, a food additive, a surfactant, etc., further disclosed is a method for manufacturing said compound. This glycol compound is represented by general formula (1). (1) (In the formula, R represents an alkyl group having 1-12 carbon atoms, a substituted or unsubstituted aryl group having 6-10 carbon atoms, or a halogen atom, with n representing an integer of 1-4. When n represents an integer of 2-4, the multiple R can be the same or different.)
