The device has two cooling regions that are spatially separated from each other, where one of the cooling regions is formed as a drawer that is removable from the device. A protective atmosphere supply unit temporarily supplies protective atmosphere i.e. deoxygenated protective atmosphere, to the drawer, where the protective atmosphere is suitable for food stuffs. The drawer includes a sealing unit for sealing the drawer against surrounding atmosphere and/or against atmosphere obtained within the device.
