<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of controlling an image forming apparatus and the image forming apparatus for obtaining excellent images by suppressing resonance. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A method of controlling a printer includes: a photoreceptor 2 rotated at a prescribed speed; and an electrifying roller 3 which charges the photoreceptor 2, when at least an alternating current voltage is applied, and has a sidewall 31a and a sidewall 31b being provided on both ends of a cylindrical body 31 and a cylindrical body 31 and mutually facing in an axial center direction. The method regulates frequencies of an alternating current voltage in response to a varied rotation speed and a resonance frequency of the electrifying roller 3 when varying a rotation speed of the photoreceptor 2.
