PURPOSE: A cathode active material and a secondary lithium battery including the same are provided to remarkably improve ion conductivity and electrical conductivity and to obtain excellent stability by minimizing reactivity with an electrolyte by forming an interface between the surface of the cathode active material and the electrolyte. CONSTITUTION: A cathode active material is comprised of lithium transition metal oxide. A compound-carbon composite is spread on the surface of the lithium transition metal oxide. The compound-carbon composite is the composite of oxygen or a sulfur compound and a carbon compound. The compound-carbon composite is chemically combined with the surface of the lithium transition metal oxide. The carbon compound is selected from natural graphite, artificial graphite, carbon block, acetylene black, ketjen black, channel black, furnace black, lamp black, thermal black, and a carbon fiber.
