METHOD OF PERFORMING HANDOVER FOR SUPPORTING A LEGACY SYSTEM

PURPOSE: A method for performing handover to support a legacy system is provided to enable a terminal to efficiently perform handover operation from a legacy serving base station to a new base station. CONSTITUTION: A message including a field is transmitted to a legacy zone of a target base station, and the field indicates a handover execution and a zone switching request from the legacy region of the target base station to a new terminal support region. A ranging response message including the system information for the new terminal support region is received from the legacy region of the target base station(S305). The zone switching to the new terminal support region is performed by using the system information(S306).
