PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an enantiomerically enriched beta-amino acid derivative which is useful in asymmetric synthesis of biologically active molecules and is obtained by an enantioselective hydrogenation of a prochiral beta amino acrylic acid derivative in the presence of a transition metal precursor complexed with a chiral ferrocenyl diphosphine ligand. SOLUTION: The enantiomerically enriched beta amino acid derivative is (2R)-4-oxo-4-[3-(trifluoromethyl)-5,6-dihydro[1,2,4]triazolo[4,3-a]pyrazin-7(8H)-yl]-1-(2,4,5-trifluorophenyl)butan-2-amine represented by the formula.
