PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing activated carbon with a high activation yield. SOLUTION: The method for producing activated carbon includes the steps of: mixing a carbide of a carbonaceous material with an alkali metal; and heating the resulting mixture at a temperature of 400°C or higher and 900°C or lower in an inert gas to obtain the activated carbon.
