Vacuum cleaner base assembly 14 comprises motor shaft 24 that is coupled to agitator 34 through a belt drive assembly, and an actuator 252, 254 for selectively uncoupling the belt drive assembly. Flywheel 250 is mounted to motor shaft 24 for rotation about a rotational axis, and has a face in a plane perpendicular to the rotational axis. Hub 258, which is rotatably mounted to actuator 252, 254 is selectively coupled to the face of flywheel 250 for rolling contact with face of flywheel 250. Actuator 252, 254 may be moved by the foot of a user, and may be biased to an engaging position. Hub 258 may be laterally movable along the face of flywheel 250 to change the relative speed of the actuator. |
