The method involves delivering the banknotes (1) along a predetermined transport path of a cartridge of the pneumatic delivery system. The bank note perpendicularly arranged in a holder (6) is brought linearly in an end position within the cartridge from a feeding position outside the cartridge by a transport unit. The banknote is held in a level position in a movement section by the holder. The bank note is pressed in the cartridge by a slider (7) by forming a bulge, on release of a passage through the holder in another movement section. An independent claim is also included for a device for the transfer of banknotes from a terminal to a pneumatic delivery system.
