PURPOSE: A detergent box of a washing machine is provided to prevent detergent from brimming over the opening of a detergent box in adding the detergent by detecting the height of the added detergent through a height detecting unit. CONSTITUTION: A detergent box of a washing machine is composed of a housing(210), and a height detecting unit(220). The housing comprises an opening. Detergent is added through the opening. The height detecting unit is formed in the housing. The height detecting unit senses the height of the added detergent. The height detecting unit is formed to be extended to the opening from the bottom of the housing. The height detecting unit has a color different from that of the detergent.
