An adhesive dispensing device (1) for use in a layered object manufacuturing system (50) is provided, the device is an adhesive applicator wheel (3) having a plurality of circumferentially spaced apart recesses (14) for receiving adhesive. The wheel (3) is rotatable to convey adhesive filled in one or more recesses (14) to a target substrate (21) and to deposit controlled amounts of adhesive at discrete points thereon.
