PURPOSE: A microwave oven and a method for controlling the door thereof are provided to enable a user to easily open and close a cavity by automatically operating a door through the detection of contact with a user. CONSTITUTION: A microwave oven comprises a case(110), a door(130), an operation unit(140), and a sensor(151). The case comprises a cavity(111). The door is installed in the case and opens and closes the cavity. The drive unit controls the operation of the door. The sensor senses the opening of the door and transfers signals to the drive unit. A handle(150) with the sensor is installed on the door.
