794,334. Electron beam focussing apparatus. EITEL-McCULLOUGH, Inc. April 18, 1955 [April 29, 1964], No. 11106/55. Class 39(1). A beam tube such as a klystron comprises a concave cathode 2, a tubular focussing electrode 4 adjacent the cathode, a first anode 7 with a bore of sufficient length to shield the cathode and focussing electrode from the remainder of the system and a second anode 6, both anodes passing the beam without obstruction under all conditions ; the potentials of electrodes 4 and 6 are constant, while the potential of anode 7 is variable for modulation of the beam current. As shown the beam passes on into a three-resonator klystron with ceramic cylinders 26 brazed to flanges 29 to which external resonator sections 24 can be attached. A similar ceramic cylinder 8 separates anodes 6 and 7 and a further cylinder 9 supports the cathode and focussing electrode within cup-shaped anode 7. The anodes have tapered tubular inserts as shown the bore in 7 being larger in diameter at the cathode end and more distant from the cathode than its total length. The modulation may be by pulses. Specification 794,333 is referred to. |
