<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inline engine having an appropriate characteristic in traction capability such as a V-type engine while exhibiting appropriate handling performance when applied to a motorcycle. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This inline engine includes: a plurality of cylinders 26a-26d arranged in parallel so that reciprocating directions of pistons 21a-21d to be stored are matched; and a crankshaft 25 rotating around an axis center A<SB>1</SB>so as to reciprocate the pistons 21a-21d. The crankshaft 25 has a plurality of crank pins 30a-30d connected to the pistons 21a-21d and having a phase difference between the crank pins around the axis center A<SB>1</SB>set to a predetermined value other than nπ[rad] (n is an integer).
