PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely ignite in a lean combustion engine even if "blow-out phenomenon" occurs by adapting a general self-excitation thyristor series inverter type multi-spark ignition device to an internal combustion engine for an automobile. SOLUTION: In an internal combustion engine ignition device I mounted on the automobile, a thyristor series inverter circuit 3 is oscillated by self-excitation with an ignition coil used as a load, multiple sparks are discharged in a gap g between discharge electrodes 3x, 3y of an spark plug by a high voltage generated at a secondary side of the ignition coil, spark is discharged in the gap g between the discharge electrodes 3x, 3y of the spark plug by the high voltage generated at the secondary side of the ignition coil by using a capacity discharge type ignition circuit 4, and spark discharge by the thyristor series inverter circuit 3 and spark discharge by the capacity discharge type ignition circuit 4 are superposed.
