METHODS FOR ESTIMATING THE EFFECT OF VARIATIONS IN DESIGN VARIABLES ON THE WEIGHT OF AN AIRCRAFT COMPONENT

Methods for estimating the effect of variations in design variables on the weight of an aircraft component, comprising the following steps: a) providing basic data about the main primary structure of the component and the Reserve Factors (RFij) associated with its design criteria (i); b) obtaining a distribution of the weight of the component by said design criteria (i) using a fictitious weight (mefRfij) calculated taking into account the relative importance of its critical design criteria; c) determining the effect on the weight of a variation of the design variable by recalculating firstly the new Reserve Factors (RFij) and then recalculating the weight of the component using for this purpose functions, respectively relating the variations in said Reserve Factors (RFij) to the design variable and the variations in the dimensions of the elements (j) to the Reserve Factors (RFij).
