Feed supplements for accelerating growth of animals, especially steers and lambs, comprise a tetracycline-type or penicillin antibiotic and an orally-active oestrogenic substance. The antibiotic is exemplified by oxytetracycline, chlortetracycline, tetracycline and active salt derivatives thereof, such antibiotics supplemented by the antibiotics carbomycin, bacitracin and ilomycin, and procaine and dibenylethylenediamine penicillins. The oestrogen is exemplified by the stilbene derivatives diethylstibbestrol, dienestrol, hexestrol, dianisylhexadiene, dianisylhexane and dienestrol acetate. There may be 98-50 per cent. of antibiotic and 2-50 per cent. of oestrogen in the supplement. 1 lb. of supplemented feed may contain 0,8-15 mg. of antibiotic and 0,1-1,5 mg. of oestrogen.
