<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent deterioration in a tracking error signal and maintain the favorable accuracy of an objective lens position signal without reducing the light quantity of zero-order component light incident to a light receiving portion. <P>SOLUTION: An optical head includes a first light receiving portion which receives light including a first reflected light beam and generates a light quantity signal corresponding to the quantity of the light, a tracking error signal generating means for generating the tracking error signal based on the light quantity signal generated by the first light receiving portion, and a dividing means which has a light shield portion provided between a plurality of first reflected light beams. In a first direction connecting the plurality of first reflected light beams, a width W2 of the light shield portion satisfies W1>W2 where W1 is an interval between the one-incremented order light area and the one-decremented order light area.
