<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical element for an optical pickup device, capable of appropriately recording/reproducing information in an optical disk, and the optical pickup device. <P>SOLUTION: On the boundary surface of a polarized beam splitter PBS, since a polarization selective reflection film M is formed only in a valid area, light flux passing the outside of a valid area of the boundary surface passes through and thus, propagation of the light flux to an optical disk side is suppressed, and hence information is appropriately recorded/reproduced in the optical disk. The polarization selective reflection film M is easily formed by masking or the like during film formation. Thus, costs are effectively suppressed. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
