PARTICULATE SUBSTANCE DETECTOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a PM sensor capable of stably detecting the concentration of a PM without depending on the operation state or the exhaust temperature of an engine.

SOLUTION: The PM sensor has a sensor electrode provided at an exhaust pipe of the engine and detects the concentration of the PM in an exhaust gas on the basis of electrical characteristics of the sensor electrode to which the PM contained in the exhaust gas is adhered. The PM sensor controls the temperature of the PM adhering to the sensor electrode to a stable PM temperature range wherein electrophysical properties of the PM are stabilized to measure the electrostatic capacity change quantityΔC of the sensor electrode and detects the concentration of the PM in the exhaust gas corresponding to the measured electrostatic capacity change quantityΔC.
