<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that it is necessary to manually draw a circle of a size corresponding to the size of a clearance region for one Chinese character in order to evaluate the degree of uniformity therein. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The Chinese character shape evaluation device is provided with: a potential value calculation part 3 for calculating a potential value showing the strength of a delineation field; an equal potential line position calculation part 4 for calculating the position of an equal potential line as a closed curve; a maximum potential line selection part 5 for selecting the maximum potential line; a shortest position calculation part 6 for calculating the shortest position where a distance from the end section of each of segments configuring one Chinese character is the shortest; a clearance region calculation part 7 for defining a center of gravity as a vertex, and for calculating a clearance region surrounded by two straight lines connecting adjacent two shortest positions with the center of gravity and the maximum potential line; a maximum circle calculation part 8 for calculating the maximum diameter of the circle which can be arranged in the clearance region; and an image display part 9 for displaying the circle as a first mark whose size corresponds to the maximum diameter.
