PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an opening and closing device of a document pressing plate that significantly reduces friction between a cam slider and a pressure sensing pin, effectively improves the "floating" phenomenon of the document pressing plate, and reduces the turn frictional resistance of a hinge shaft. SOLUTION: This opening and closing device includes an attaching member attached to a device body such as a copying machine, a support arm turnably pivoted to the attaching member, a lift arm that is turnably pivoted to the tip of the support arm and attaches the document pressing plate, a pair of first and second sliders slidably disposed in the support arm, and a compression spring that is disposed between the first and second sliders, elastically presses the first slider to an operation pin turning with the lift arm, and elastically presses the pressure sensing pin for rotatably passing a cam of the second slider to the attaching member.
