<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tooth face measurement reference setting device, capable of setting a measurement reference of an bevel gear to an outside of the bevel gear on the basis of a tooth face of the bevel gear, and to provide a method for setting the measurement reference for a tooth face. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This tooth face measurement reference setting device 100 includes a first member 110, having three fitting members 111, 111, 111 to be fitted to tooth grooves formed on an bevel gear 1, and a body member 114 having formed thereon a first reference face 115a that is parallel to a virtual plane 30 obtained, by connecting fitting portions between the three fitting members 111, 111, 111 and the tooth grooves of the bevel gear 1; and a second member 120 that can be slid in a direction perpendicular to the first reference face 115a, by being engaged with the first member 110, has formed thereon a second reference face 123a that is parallel to the first reference face 115a, when it is engaged with the first member 110 and allows the bevel gear 1 to be fixed thereto, with the bevel gear 1 in a state where the three fitting members 111, 111, 111 are fitted to the grooves that differ from one another.
