<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rice cooker for improving the taste of rice and preventing deformation and a fault due to the temperature rise of a lid, lid heating means, or the like by heating. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A water presence/no presence detecting means is configured to determine the no presence of water when detection temperature by a temperature detecting means 17 exceeds prescribed temperature within a prescribed time in a prescribed step, and to vary the amount of heating of a lid heating plate 8, the prescribed time, and the prescribed temperature in accordance with the detection temperature. Respective rice cooking programs are provided for rice cooking with the presence or absence of water, respectively, on the basis of information when the water presence/no presence detecting means detects the presence/no presence of water stored in the lid heating plate 8. Even when the water is not supplied to the lid heating plate 8 or there is no water to be stored in the lid heating plate 8 in the middle of rice cooking, drying of rice in an upper layer inside a pot 2 to be caused by the temperature rise of the lid heating plate 8 is reduced, thereby improving the taste of rice and eliminating the deformation and fault due to the temperature rise.
