The method involves transporting and guiding a printing substrate (10) and/or a printing medium around a subregion of rotatable guide and transport rollers (18). Microwaves are applied into the substrate and/or the medium by microwave applicators in a region in which the substrate and/or the medium clasps the rollers. Gas i.e. air, is supplied into a region, which lies behind the applicators in a transport direction of the substrate and/or the medium. A microwave power and/or gas quantity is controlled based on parameters e.g. transport speed, of the substrate and/or the medium.
