摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for producing glass fibers, whereby glass fibers having a desired flattened cross-sectional shape are stably produced by evenly and efficiently cooling a molten glass which is drawn through flattened nozzle holes of nozzles, thus making the variation of the cross-sectional shape in between glass fibers as small as possible. SOLUTION: The apparatus for producing glass fibers comprises the following: a glass storage tank for storing glass fibers M in a molten state; plural nozzles 20, each of which has a flattened nozzle hole 22, which are arranged in a bushing 30 of the glass storage tank and through which the glass M is drawn below; and cooling pipes 10 for cooling the molten glass M drawn from the nozzle holes 22 of the nozzles 20. The apparatus produces the glass fibers having a flattened cross-sectional shape from the molten glass M. The cooling pipes 10 are oppositely placed so as to straddle over both of the molten glass M drawn from the nozzles 20 and the nozzle holes 22, thus flowing cooling water C through the centrums 11 of the cooling pipes 10.
