<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aluminum based alloy which is small in linear expansion coefficient with an Al-Cu based alloy having excellent high temperature properties as a base. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The extruded material of an aluminum based alloy having a componential composition containing, by mass, 5.0 to 12.0% Cu, 0.1 to 1.0% Mg, 0.1 to 1.0% Mn, 0.1 to 1.5% Fe and 0.5 to 4.0% Ni, and, if required, further containing at least one or more kinds selected from 0.05 to 0.20% V, 0.05 to 0.25% Zr and 0.05 to 0.20% Ti in the relation satisfying Fe+Ni: ≥1.7%, and in which the content of Si is regulated to ≤1%, and the balance Al with inevitable impurities is subjected to solution treatment at 510 to 545°C for ≥2 hr, and is thereafter subjected to aging treatment at 185 to 235°C for 1 to 20 hr so as to obtain an aluminum based alloy having excellent high temperature strength and low thermal expansibility, which has mechanical properties that tensile strength at 200°C after holding at 200°C for 100 hr is ≥250 MPa and the tensile strength at 250°C after holding at 250°C for 100 hr is ≥150 MPa, and thermal expansion properties that the average linear expansion coefficient at room temperature to 200°C reaches ≤22×10<SP>-6</SP>/°C.
