<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering shaft assist system electric power steering device using a ball screw. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A first screw shaft 12 is connected to a steering wheel 2. A second screw shaft 15 connected to a motor 28 is arranged in parallel to the first screw shaft 12. A first nut 13 is fitted to the first screw shaft 12 for making linear motion in the axial direction of the first screw shaft 12 in response to rotary motion of the first screw shaft 12. A second nut 16 is fitted to the second screw shaft 15 for making linear motion in the axial direction of the second screw shaft 15 in response to rotary motion of the second screw shaft 15. A lead of the second screw shaft 15 and the second nut 16 is smaller than a lead of the first screw shaft 12 and the first nut 13, and the first nut 13 makes linear motion in response to the linear motion of the second nut 16.
