The valve (10) has a valve stem (20) that is connected to a transmission unit (24). A valve unit (18) is operated by the valve stem, and a sensor unit (50) includes an element (51) e.g. permanent magnet, for production of a predetermined magnetic field at the movable valve stem. The sensor unit includes a fixed sensor element (56) e.g. hall sensor and field plate, that is arranged adjacent to the element for measurement of the field produced by the element. The sensor element produces a sensor signal correlating with a position of the valve stem.
