PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for melting and mixing a fire retardant polyamide composition comprising a halogen-free fire retarding agent and/or a halogenated fire retarding agent exhibiting improved fire retardance and/or improved color and showing sensitivity to heat, and a high temperature engineering polyamide. SOLUTION: A method for preparing the fire retardant polyamide composition includes a step of melting and mixing a composition comprising at least one kind of a polyamide polymer having a weight-average molecular weight of at least 10,000 g/mol, 1-100 wt.%, based on the whole weight of the polyamide, of the fire retardant agent, and 0.1-30 wt.%, based on the whole weight of the polyamide, of a polyamide oligomer having a weight-average molecular weight of at most 7,500 g/mol.
