<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a toroidal continuously variable transmission capable of effectively cooling a rolling element of a thrust ball bearing to rotatably support a power roller relative to a trunnion with a lubricating oil. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A retainer 27 of the thrust ball bearing which rotatably supports the power roller of the toroidal continuously variable transmission relative to the trunnion has an outside opposite surface opposite to an outer ring and an inside opposite surface 127 opposite to an inner ring (the power roller). The retainer 27 has a plurality of pockets 120 disposed in the circumferential direction. Oil grooves 141, 142 passing through the pockets 120 are provided in the inside opposed surface 127 and the outside opposed surface of the retainer respectively. The position passing through the pockets 120 of the oil grooves 141, 142 is not the center of the pockets 120, but eccentric from the center, that is, a position in front of the rotational direction of a rolling element rolling in the pockets 120.
