<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To promote atomization of fuel spray injected from a fuel injection nozzle immediately before the completion of the injection. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The fuel injection device 1 includes: a nozzle body 3 having a sac part 33 to which injection holes 31 are formed, and seat faces 33 formed closer to a base end side than the sac part 31; a first needle 4 moved in the axial direction of the nozzle body 3 in the nozzle body 3, and seated on the seat faces 33; a second needle 5 disposed at the center of the first needle to be movable in the axial direction of the nozzle body 3; and a first control chamber 6 and a second control chamber 7 constituted to move the first needle 4 and the second needle 5 independently. Immediately before the first needle 4 is seated on the seat faces 33, an ECU 10 makes a second control valve 9 open to discharge fuel in the second control chamber 7, and moves the second needle to the base end side to make the pressure in the sac part 32 negative, so as to promote the atomization of the fuel.
