<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type display device capable of efficiently reducing scintillation and displaying good quality images. <P>SOLUTION: The projection type display device for projecting an image on a screen and displaying the image includes: at least one laser light source 11 for emitting coherent light; an illumination optical system 4A for propagating the luminous flux emitted from the laser light source 11 into a predetermined optical path and guiding the luminous flux toward the screen side; a reflection type optical modulation element 2 for forming an image to be displayed on the screen, on an illuminated surface 2a illuminated by the luminous flux guided by the illumination optical system 4A; and a projection optical system 3 for enlarging and projecting the image formed on the illuminated surface 2a of the reflection type optical modulation element 2 onto the screen. In the illumination optical system 4A, a diffusion element 5 for diffusing the propagated light is disposed in the vicinity of a conjugate position with the reflection type optical modulation element 2, on the light propagation path. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
