<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To more efficiently perform an effective subject extraction. <P>SOLUTION: An image dividing section 213 divides one of two captured images, captured by a first imaging section 100A and a second imaging section 100B into a plurality of regions on the basis of color information, luminance information, or the like. A distance calculating section 214 uses the divided regions as a template and performs scanning on the other captured image. The distance calculating section 214 calculates the photographic distance for a searched area, based on the principle of parallax-based triangulation. When a subject position is designated, an area including the position is used as a template, or in the case, where no subject position is designated, overall area is used as a template and candidate areas are extracted, on the basis of the photographic distance. A subject extracting section 215 calculates an inter-color distance between a candidate area and a non-candidate area adjacent to the candidate area; and when the inter-color distance is short, the area is excluded from the candidate.
