<p>A side airbag device for a side collision is configured in such a manner that a first bag half (20) on the occupant side and a second bag half (21) on the door side are formed by sandwiching a third base cloth (19) between a first base cloth (17) on the occupant side and a second base cloth (18) on the door side, and that gas supplied from an inflator (22) to the second bag half (21) is supplied to the first bag half (20) through a communication hole (19a) formed in the third base cloth (19) at the end thereof which is located remote from the inflator (22). The above configuration allows that the second half bag (21) is expanded first to obtain minimum required occupant restraining performance and then the first bag half (20) is expanded to enhance the occupant restraining performance. The second bag half (21) can be smoothly expanded without interfering with the occupant because the thickness of the second bag half (21) in the vehicle width direction is small, and when the expansion of the first bag half (20) is completed, the entire airbag (16) has a sufficient thickness in the vehicle width direction to effectively protect the occupant.</p> |
