<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that can specify what part in a developing area leak is caused at. Ž<P>SOLUTION: According to a control signal from a controller 37, a first step is carried out to cause the leak in one of areas divided into several in a longitudinal direction. Then, the leak is detected by a leak detection device 35. When the leak is detected, leak causing voltage V1 is measured. Continuously, a second step is carried out to cause the leak in another area different from the area in the first step. The leak is detected by the leak detection device 35. When the leak is detected, leak causing voltage V2 is measured. When the measured V1 and V2 are different from each other, a peak-to-peak value (Vpp between a photoreceptor drum and a developing roller) is set on the basis of the leak causing voltage V1 or V2 which is the higher one, and exposure output of an exposure unit 4 is adjusted in each area on the basis of V1 and V2.
