<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of constructing an underground structure capable of reliably and inexpensively cutting water off a joint by providing a water cut-off plate between boxes connected to each other. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The underground structure formed of a plurality of boxes F1, F2 connected to each other is constructed under the ground by moving forward the boxes F1, F2 following a roof E comprising a plurality of box-shaped pipe roofs 6 which are arranged side by side in the ground in order from a start shaft B. The method includes a step of constructing the box F1 having a rear end surface from which a part of the water cut-off plate 8 projects by placing concrete in the start shaft B, a step of arranging a pressing ring 10 at the rear of the box F1, a step of forming a mortar part G1 by placing mortar between the rear end surface of the box F1 and the pressing ring 10, a step of moving forward and burying the box F1 in the ground by pressing the pressing ring 10 with a master jack 14, a step of exposing the water cut-off plate 8 by cutting off the mortar part G1, and a step of constructing the box F2 which is brought into contact with the box F1 through the water cut-off plate 8 by placing concrete.
