A secure locker system and method for delivering goods to and retrieving goods from a locker is provided. The locker system comprises of a plurality of locker cabinets (10) and a centralised system controller (20). The locker cabinets (10) include a plurality of locker units (16), a plurality of locking devices (12), a plurality of locker cabinet controllers (11), a plurality of devices for sending and receiving messages/signals (13), and a plurality of devices for automatically updating and displaying "time-based" security codes (15). The centralised system controller (20) includes an application server (21), a message server (22) and a centralised database server (23). The present invention required a user to submit an access request message/signal to a centralized system controller (20) via user's mobile terminal (41) to gain access to a locker unit (16). Said access request message/signal includes valid user identity, locker unit identity and "time-based" security code. Upon receipt the access request message/signal from the user, the centralised system (controller 20) verifies the user submitted information. When the user is authorized, the centralised system controller (20) directs the locker cabinet controller (11) to instruct the locking device (12) to unlock the locker unit (16). Besides, the present invention includes a unique feature to identify "long-delayed" access request message/signal transmission by comparing the "receiving time" of the access request message/signal versus the "displaying time" of the submitted "time-based" security code. One of the purposes of "time-based" security code verification is to prevent the locker unit (16) being unlocked when the user is absent. |
