PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce power consumption without losing convenience of a navigation apparatus. SOLUTION: A display device 51 of the navigation apparatus 1 includes electronic paper having a large power-saving effect. A control unit 10 refers to a map data memory 41 to extract intersections requiring right/left turns from a guidance route ranging from a starting place to a destination as guidance places as the processing of a guidance route generation processing section 11. Also, as a power control guidance processing section 12, when an own vehicle passes guidance places, a map of a guidance route from the guidance place to the next one is displayed on a display device 51, and required time until the own vehicle arrives at the next guidance place is calculated, and power supply to a position detection unit 20 is cut off for an amount of time obtained by subtracting a prescribed amount of time from the required time. Also, as the processing of a guidance place guidance processing section 13, when the distance between the own vehicle and the guidance place is not more than a prescribed distance, the intersection of the guidance place is displayed on an enlarged map.
