PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system for identifying a particular object image for improving a rate of detecting a face image of a particular person. SOLUTION: A difference in brightness between pixels 21 and 22 of an image 20 represented by image data input to a face detection circuit is used as a feature quantity of the image 20. The feature quantity is converted into scores in accordance with a histogram C1 having a feature quantity/score conversion characteristic by which a determination as a general face image is made. If a general face image is detected, a determination is made as to whether or not an image is a face image according to whether the scores converted are not less than a threshold value. If the face image of a particular person is detected, scores are determined using a feature quantity/score conversion characteristic C11 that matches the feature quantity of the face image of the particular person. Based on the scores determined, a determination is made as to whether or not the image is the face image of the particular person.
