USE OF APL-TYPE PEPTIDE FOR TREATING INTESTINAL INFLAMMATORY DISEASES AND TYPE 1 DIABETES

The present invention relates to the field of medicine, in particular the use of an APL-type peptide, derived from the human 60 kDa heat-shock protein or analogues thereof, for preparing a pharmaceutical composition for treating Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis and type 1 diabetes mellitus. Said peptide is biodistributed to the gastrointestinal tract and promotes the induction of apoptosis of activated T-cells of the intestinal lamina propria and of the peripheral blood of patients with Crohn's disease. Furthermore this peptide induces apoptosis of mononuclear cells of patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus.
