<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a composite material in which the other material is placed on a base material and is dispersed into the base material by friction stirring, which solves the problem that, in the case, particularly, a powdery additive is placed, the powder is exposed to the surface, thus the powder is scattered by friction stirring, and the mixing amount of the powder can not be controlled. <P>SOLUTION: A wire rod fitted with a metal film to the material to be mixed in such a manner that the material to be mixed is not directly contacted with a shoulder of a tool for friction stirring, or a wire rod packed with the material to be mixed into a metal tube and a base material are stirred by a tool for friction stirring.
