<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a twin clutch type transmission for a railway motor car which is compact and good in transmission efficiency. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The twin clutch type transmission for a railway motor car includes an input shaft 10, an odd-stage transmission mechanism 30, an even-stage transmission mechanism 60, and an output mechanism 90. Each of the transmission mechanisms 30, 60 includes: transmission gear trains 32, 62; main clutches 34, 64, which transmit the power of the transmission gear trains 32, 62 to a transmission shafts 40, 70 selectively; synchronous gear trains 36, 66; and synchronous clutches 38, 68, which transmit the power of the synchronous gear trains 36, 66 to a transmission shafts 40, 70 selectively. Furthermore, each of the transmission mechanisms 30, 60 includes: shift gear trains 41, 43, 45, 47, 72, 74, 76, 78, which are provided on the transmission shafts 40, 70 to transmit the rotation to the output mechanism 90, and mechanical clutches 50, 52, 80, 82, which connect each of the shift gear trains to the transmission shafts 40, 70 selectively.
