<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an animal observing device that improves determination accuracy of an observer who determines the species of an animal observed by the observer and enables the observer to acquire knowledge about the species of the observed animal by learning the species of the animal properly determined. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The animal observing device includes: a current position measuring means 19 for measuring a current position of a camera 17; a storage means for storing in advance an animal species living in a predetermined area in association with predetermined-area information corresponding to the predetermined area including the current position; a selecting means for selecting the animal species information stored in the storage means in association with the predetermined-area information on the basis of collected sound information corresponding to sounds collected by sound collecting means M1 to M5 and the current position information corresponding to the current position measured by the current position measuring means; and a display control means for controlling the display of an animal species identification image, which identifies the species of an animal that has cried, in a display position in a captured image on the basis of the animal species information.
